Reflections on Day One

It is late on Sunday night and I am trying to process what I have seen today.  It started out with a hot cup of coffee and early morning conversation with the team who arrived the night before.  We boarded the VERY SMALL van with 24 eager bodies and headed to our new home.

After a lunch of...yes...beans and plantain, we had orientation.  I expected to hear things I have already read about Nicaragua.  I expected not to be shocked, to be pragmatic.  Nothing could have been farther from reality.  The reality was the abject poverty that assaulted our senses.

Tomorrow we make bricks.  Tonight I simply remain humble.  And so grateful to be here, so grateful to be sharing with with my daughter.  So grateful to be surrounded by the incredible people who live here.

Good night all.  Until tomorrow.

Love and Peace.  Always.
